“We’re On Our Way” (to Germany) music video launched!

Prostate Scotland today (Sunday 9th June 2024) launches a music video, “We’re On Our Way” (to Germany) at a special event in South Queensferry as part of a campaign to cheer on the national team heading to Germany, and raise funds and awareness of the charity’s work.

Football fans across the country responded to a call to action in the last three weeks by submitting funny and supportive video clips to make a music video for the “We’re On Our Way” fan song, launched in early May.

John Pryde, 47, a Hibbies fan and hair salon owner from South Queensferry was inspired to write an anthem song last summer when Scotland’s chances of qualifying for EURO 24 were looking good. After qualification was guaranteed, John set out to make his dream a reality.

‘Haircut meetings!’

He shared plans of the song’s development with client, Alan McNeill, a consultant urologist and Prostate Scotland trustee who put John in touch with recording and producer contacts. Since January, the duo had a series of ‘haircut meetings’ to finalise the song and create the fundraising and awareness campaign.

The music video tells the story of the “We’re On Our Way” song, starting with John in South Queensferry along with scenes of Hampden and celebratory cheers with his football buddies. The fan generated content kicks in and is bursting with the joy of Scotland heading to Germany.

An ITV Sport interview featuring Ally McCoist talking excitedly about the EURO qualifiers and how pleased he is for the players is used in both the song and music video. There are cheers from Kris Boyd and Colin McCredie, and Janey Godley and Grant Stott wrap things up by encouraging people to donate.

Prostate FFIT has been specially designed for men with prostate cancer and is run in partnership with the SPFL Trust and delivered through Scottish football clubs.

It is this Prostate Scotland programme and other vital support services provided by the charity to help men navigate prostate cancer, that the fundraising will support. Through this campaign, it is hoped that more Scottish men will be aware of their prostate, know what to look for, seek help, and get an early diagnosis.

Alan McNeill, consultant urologist and Prostate Scotland trustee, comments: “We’ve had a brilliant response from fans submitting their video clips, and it has been fun making the music video which has been presented to the national team to send them off with a burst of optimism.”
“We hope fans enjoy the music video, chant the song, and donate to our work so we can support more men with prostate disease and cancer in Scotland.”

An emotive sounding song with pipes and drums

John Pryde, comments: “What an epic adventure this has been – so many people have helped bring this song and campaign to life.

“It’s an emotive sounding song with pipes and drums, and a German oompah style to it. We also wanted to pay tribute to the traditional sound of Andy Cameron’s 1978 song. These vibes have gone into how the song has been written and composed – and we hope it stands the test of time as an anthem song.

“It has been incredible to see people coming together to create the clips for the music video. Let’s get behind the boys chanting “We’re On Our Way”, and I hope people join me in my bid to raise a stack of cash for Prostate Scotland.”
